READER TYPES:
ALPHA:
Alpha readers typically work alongside the author and get the first draft (and outline if applicable) on a chapter by chapter basis. They are responsible for providing feedback on if the story is staying on track, if the characters are developing as expected, if messages and themes are being properly delivered, help determine if the pacing is suitable, etc. Alpha readers typically have a good understanding of story structure and should be able to offer valuable, in-depth feedback for the writer to use to improve their story as it progresses.
BETA:
Beta readers typically receive the story after it has been completed, somewhere between the first draft or a few revisions in, but before it goes off to an editor (usually). They are responsible for looking at the story overall and providing details such as if the story is laid out well, the pacing works, commenting on character and plot development, areas that could be improved, sections that may be unnecessary, sentences that don't read well, typos and mistakes (and don't be afraid to comment on what REALLY works well and what you enjoyed).
ARC:
ARC readers get the finished product (typically in eBook format and typically before the book has been released). They are responsible for reading the finished product and providing a review for other readers. Good AND bad reviews are encouraged so long as they are honest. While the reviews are not required, it is incredibly helpful for authors and readers to get honest opinions about the book from other readers and reviews are the primary driver as to why authors seek out ARC readers.

With a background in both education, and marketing I've been working as a copywriter/editor, a ghostwriter, and PR/Marketing professional since 2020. My background includes a Bachelor's degree in Communication with a specialization in emerging media. I've completed multiple projects and worked on various stages in the author space. Not only is my work in the author space I also work as a social media manager, marketing/business consultant, and have experience in ad space. I was born and raised in South Georgia, however despite the Southern traditions and stereotypes, I grew up as a fan of things such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, etc. Growing up, I participated in Reading Quiz bowls where students would receive a list of 20 books to read in roughly 1 year and then be quized on in a game show style competition against groups of students from other schools in the state of Georgia.
This participation has lead me to be very conscious and annotative in all of my reading.
