DISCLAIMER:
Service Provider Contracts are not supplied by IAX in any form or fashion. The service providers listed on this site, have been vetted by IAX to be reliable, professional, and of a level of quality, but any contracts for hire are expected to be handled between / provided by the Provider and/or the Customer [i.e. the author]. IAX bears no responsibility over mediating or overseeing the transactions between Provider and Customer. We do not collect commission, royalty, or revenue in any way from any transaction. The prices and services remain wholly controlled by the service provider.

However, if you do encounter any issues (either with a service provider or a customer) please use the "Rate Your Experience" form or contact Atlas at indieauthorconnect@gmail.com

PLEASE NOTE:
Editors typically charge based on word count, so you may see a range from $0.01 to $0.025 (or higher) per word depending on their rates. This would mean that a 50k word book charged at $0.015 per word, would cost ~$750 to edit.

Also, be aware that most editors offer a free sample edit (this is dependent on the total word count -- lower content books may not be eligible for a free edit, or the sample size may be much smaller). This is highly encouraged as it gives both the author and the editor a chance to determine if the relationship is the best fit. It may also be beneficial as some editors may lower their rate if the manuscript is relatively clean already. Be sure to discuss these options with the editor you choose to work with!

I have been immersed in stories my whole life but only thought about the power of it at age 35 when I started writing on a whim. Since then, I have become an accomplished author, speaker, and podcaster, focusing on crafting stories that bring hope, healing, and vision, whether through fiction or in real life. With five published books of my own, a long list of happy clients and more to come, I also help coach others on telling their stories. I love learning, having conversations, and firing up my passion to help people understand their inherent worth and goodness.

With a background in both education, and marketing I've been working as a copywriter/editor, a ghostwriter, and PR/Marketing professional since 2020. My background includes a Bachelor's degree in Communication with a specialization in emerging media. I've completed multiple projects and worked on various stages in the author space. Not only is my work in the author space I also work as a social media manager, marketing/business consultant, and have experience in ad space. My husband and I run Shook&Co, a web design company that helps with web development and I also do copy and graphic design for it. I love to read and though I tend to keep my marketing business separate from my reading/writing, the two worlds often intersect (like here). I'm neurodivergent, a big fan of parenthesis, and will always root for the oxford comma. As an enneagram 9, I'm always happy to help people, sometimes to my own detriment. I don't believe in gatekeeping and am always willing to help others where I can.

I provide line/copy editing, book coaching, and support for self-publishing authors of inclusive romance, cozy mysteries, and children's books. I'm particularly interested in books featuring queer, disabled, and fat characters.

I graduated from Penn State University, where I aced the 400-level editing and proofreading class. I worked as a proofreader for a national advertising magazine for two years, then joined the staff of a group of local weekly newspapers, where I served as a feature writer, photographer, and copyeditor for 14 years. After taking classes in copyediting and developmental editing of fiction from the Editorial Arts Academy, I opened my freelance editorial business in February 2021.

My approach to editing is centered around collaboration and partnership. I aim to educate through each edit, creating an inviting atmosphere that’s tailored to your learning style and helps you grow as a writer. I know how vulnerable you may feel having someone walk into the world you've created, shift things around, and mark it up with their editing pen. That's why everything is a discussion.

In addition to this, I take pride in staying abreast of industry trends, style guides, and best practices. My commitment to continuous learning empowers me to provide informed and relevant feedback, ensuring that your manuscript not only meets but exceeds industry standards.

I am committed to ensuring that your narrative not only reflects your unique voice but also adheres to the highest professional standards, making a lasting impact on your readers. Your words matter, and they deserve to reach the world.

I'm a passionate editor with over ten years of experience. My editorial approach grows out of my background as a university-level writing tutor, an international scholar, an agented writer, and an editor dedicated to staying up on current industry expectations and standards. As an active member of the Editorial Freelancer's Association (EFA) and the Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), I continuously refine skills and knowledge that I love putting to use for the writers I work with.

My editing philosophy stems from a desire to support authors who want to grow in their craft and become better thinkers through the best editorial hospitality I can provide short of putting the kettle on and pulling my desk next to theirs.

My goal is to cultivate a friendly and professional relationship with my authors. If I'm doing my job right, my influence on the manuscript should be near invisible. I celebrate writing that breaks the rules and take an unfussy editing approach. I am not a hard-nose, judgey grammarian who wields grammar guides like weapons (though I do reference the Chicago Manual of Style religiously).

My favorite books to read generally fall into literary fiction and speculative fiction genres, though I can find something to appreciate about most genres. I'm one of those "nose stuck in the book, will read anything" kind of people.

My professional background is in behavioral healthcare, and I pursued continuing education in editing and proofreading, both of which I've demonstrated my competency through the completion of certificate programs.

I am a member of the Editorial Freelancer Association, ACES: The Society for Editing, and the Northwest Editors Guild.

I believe there’s nothing like the collaborative effort of working with an indie author to bring a new book to its readers. I have a Certificate in Editing from Poynter University/ACES and passed the Publishing Training Centre’s proofreading course with distinction, but my favorite training was attending the Writers’ Police Academy, where I took hands-on courses taught by law enforcement, EMTs, firefighters, and scientists that help with realism and fact-checking.

I'm a Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) and a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), where I serve as the Michigan chapter coordinator. I've worked for large and small presses and dozens of indie authors.

When not in my home state of Michigan, I can be found hiking through the woods on my family’s hundred-acre farm in West Virginia or kayaking on the lake across the street.

I’m an editor through my company, Glasswing Editing, and specialize in romance, fantasy, and sci-fi. I’m extremely passionate about helping writers propel their writing to the best it can be. As an editor, I’ve only ever received five-star reviews from my clients—a streak I never intend to break!

I pour my heart and soul into every project. I believe in building up an author, not cutting them down. I believe that a great editor acts as an author’s coach, teammate, and cheerleader, all in one. I believe in giving thoughtful insight alongside my edits so the author can learn and grow from their mistakes or missteps. I pride myself in doing all this while still preserving the author’s unique voice, which is always at the forefront of my mind.
